FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE 50-ACRE WILDFIRE IN SOUTHEAST VOLUSIA

Volusia County Fire Services and support crews Monday were on the scene of a 50-acre wildfire which erupted Sunday in Southeast Volusia County near Maytown Road and Interstate 95.

Firefighters from the County, Florida Division of Forestry, Edgewater and Miami Corporation battled the blaze Sunday until the early morning hours Monday. County Fire Services’ Public Information Officer Ralph Davis said inmate crews from County Corrections, County Public Works and firefighters were back on the scene Monday working to ensure the fire didn’t kick up again today. The fire was classified as contained but not under control.

Davis said the fire was about a quarter of a mile west of I-95 near Maytown and Camp roads. There were no reported loss of structures. One County firefighter suffered a leg injury which was not serious.
