FIRE CREWS
WATCHING FOUR AREAS OF CONCERN
Crews from Volusia County Fire Services,
Division of Forestry, and the United States Forest Service continued to monitor four areas
of concern Thursday evening.
"Since the storms on Wednesday, we have
received a total of 32 reports of smoke sightings and lightning strikes to woodland
areas," said Deputy Chief Steve Plummer, Volusia County Fire Services.
"Fortunately, most of those were unfounded. We consider everything to be extinguished
except the four areas identified."
According to Plummer, the following areas are
considered contained and controlled but still have the potential to flareup with high
winds:
Port Orange - Shuntz and Tomoka Farms roads.
Edgewater - West of I-95 on the south side
of 442.
Oak Hill/Mims - Lake Harney and
Osteen/Maytown roads.
Pierson - Riley Pigeon Road
The US Forest Service used two helicopters to
help douse the flames in the Pierson blaze which is on federal land, said Plummer.
No injuries or losses were reported from any
of the days incidents.
Volusia County Fire Services plans to return
to routine operations Friday, said Plummer.
Note: This is the final release which will
be issued tonight.
