Physical skills assessment

FIREFIGHTER

An instructor will lead you through the entire course to assist you with course directions.

Station #1 – Stair Carry (Up)

Hoist a 50 ft, 2 ½ inch hose pack to your shoulder. Carry the hose pack up the inside tower stairwell to the tower roof, using each step. Place the hose in the large painted square in the center of the roof then proceed to Station #2 at the west side tower railing.

Station #2 – Hoisting Evolution

There is a rope tied to the west side tower railing. At the opposite end is a coil of hose. Hoist the coiled hose to the rooftop. You may use whatever method you wish to hoist the hose (hand over hand or using the railing to hoist). When the hose is at the roof of the tower, pull the hose roll over the rail and place the hose (still coiled) in the small painted square on the roof surface by the railing. Then proceed to Station #3 by returning to the large painted square in the center of the roof.

Station #3 – Stair Carry (Down)

Pick up the hose pack that you placed there when you first came up the stairs. Place the hose pack on your shoulder and proceed down the inside stairwell. Be sure to take one step at a time. Carry the hose to the ground floor of the tower and return it to where you originally picked the hose up. Place the hose on the ground and proceed to Station #4, which is the weight sled.

Station #4 – Weight Sled

Pick up the sledgehammer, straddle the block weight and, using the sledgehammer, drive the weight to the other end of the sled. When completed, proceed to Station #5, the charged hose line.

Station #5 – Hose Lift Drag

Proceed to the orange cone, walking at a fast pace (do not run). Go around the orange cone and walk to where the loop in the hose is laid on the ground. Pick up the loop of the hose and proceed to the orange cone and lay the loop of hose over the cone. You may use any method you wish to move the hose to the cone. When the hose is over the cone proceed to the nozzle that is positioned next to the orange cone. Pick up the nozzle and place it over your shoulder. Move the hose forward to the next orange cone and flow water. Place the nozzle on the ground and proceed to Station #6, the rescue drag.

Station #6 – Rescue Drag

Move forward to the rescue dummy (weight 175 pounds). Position yourself behind the head of the dummy and lift the dummy to the sitting position. Using whatever method you wish, lift and drag the dummy 100-ft to the double cones at the end of the course. Members may utilize a small rope/strap to aid in gripping the dummy if it is carried throughout the entire evolution. The rope/strap may not be tied around the hands or secured in a manner that eliminates the need to grip the rope/strap. The dummy is not required to be completely lifted from the ground, but must be dragged in a manner that maintains an upright-supine position.

NOTE:

Course must be completed within 7:45 minutes. There is a completion-only rating for scores. You should plan to wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. You may use gloves if you choose. Your time starts when you first pick up the hose.
