Fire Services Being
Considered for Innovations in Government Award
Volusia County Fire Services was recently
notified that they have successfully completed the first round of the
Innovations In Government Award competition. The award program is
administered by the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and
Innovation, the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard
University. Fire Services submitted its Child Car Safety Seat Program for
consideration and will now be considered for advancement into the second
round. Only fifteen percent of the original applicants have advanced to
the next round.
The Ford Foundation and the John F. Kennedy
School of Government initiated the Innovation in Government awards in
1986. The awards program recognizes and promotes excellence in government
by drawing attention to exemplary achievements by government agencies. The
next round will identify, in January, fifteen applicants for final
consideration for the awards. The final round will identify five winning
programs each of which will be eligible for an up to $100,000 grant to
develop a replication plan to facilitate use of the program by other
jurisdictions. In addition, the ten finalists not selected will be
eligible to share a $100,000 grant.
