Again, in 2003 Volusia County experienced little wildfire activity. Volusia County Fire Services responded to 272 brush fires in 2003. Most were contained in 25 acres or less, and no brush fire operations lasted more than 7 hours.
The largest fire occurred on February 2nd as the Ashby Cove Fire burned nearly 40 acres north of Osteen. Personnel from Volusia County Fire Services, Deltona Fire/Rescue, and the Division of Forestry quickly contained the fire. Mop-up operations were conducted the next day.
