On March 29, 2006, Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) 1, ARFF 2,
ARFF 4, Engine 17 and Battalion 17 responded to Runway 25 Right for
Alert 3A at the Daytona Beach International Airport. The aircraft, a
twin engine Seminole, crashed after the nose gear failed upon touchdown.
The gear failure caused the aircraft to pitch to the right, at which
point the propeller struck the runway and the aircraft veered into the
grass area next to Taxiway Echo. The aircraft sustained moderate damage
and damaged some airport navigation equipment. A student pilot and his
instructor, neither of whom were injured, occupied the aircraft. The
crash resulted in the partial closure of Runway 25R for two hours.
