Fernery building destroyed in blaze
On April 24, 2007, a commercial structure fire was called in at 1316 hours by an individual riding by the scene on a bike on Mercer's Fernery Road in DeLand. When Engine 46 arrived, the structure was fully involved in flames. Units from DeLand Fire Rescue and VCFS Stations 35, 41, 42 and 45 responded to the scene. The fire destroyed an old fernery packing house and was ruled an electrical fire by the state fire marshal's office.
