Horse dies when trailer overturns

At midnight on May 18, 2007 Volusia County Engines 43 and 44, Squad 46 and Battalion 40 responded to a call on State Road 17 in Seville for a horse trailer rollover. Arriving on the scene they discovered three horses valued at $100,000 trapped inside the trailer, which was on its side. A new metal cutting saw purchased by the Glenwood Association for Squad 46 was utilized in the unusual extrication required to remove the horses. A veterinarian was on scene to calm the horses with sedatives during the extrication. Unfortunately, one of the horses was deceased but the other two horses were removed and transported for further care. The driver of the trailer sustained broken ribs.
