VCFS Honored by the IAFC for Innovation in the Fire Service
The International Association of Fire Chiefs has honored Volusia County Fire Services with a Certificate of Commendation for its contributions to the advancement of fire protection. Volusia County Fire Services was recognized for its partnership with the Volusia/Flagler Child Safety Seat Program and for providing the public with Child Passenger Safety Technicians twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week at fire stations. Technicians are available to assist caregivers with safety education and the installation of child safety seats. This service is attainable at all of Volusia County Fire Services’ staffed fire stations.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reports that ninety-eight percent of child safety seats are improperly installed, have been recalled or are not appropriate for the children in question. Volusia County Fire Services works with the Volusia/Flagler Child Safety Seat Program to save lives and reduce injuries to children by offering Child Passenger Safety Seat Check-up Events throughout Volusia and Flagler counties.
