Volusia County Wildland Fire Coordinating Group Receives NaCo Award

The NaCo (National Association of Counties) Achievement Award has been bestowed upon the Volusia County Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (VCWFCG) for 2002, recognizing their significance to the community as an innovative county program. Formed in 2000 as a response to some of the problems encountered during the Wildfires of 1998, the group works to promote intergovernmental cooperation and communication among federal, state, and local organizations as well as other local agencies, private landowners and public utilities. The group consists of representatives from all levels of government, private landowners, at large representatives and a coordinator from Volusia County Fire Services. The Coordinating Group has successfully established standards for education programs, mitigation efforts, training, equipment and response criteria to reduce the impact of future wildfires in Volusia County.
