This 152 acre site is located
north of Lafayette Landings Drive, east of State Road 11 and
directly north of the Lafayette Landings fly-in community. Public
access to this property is limited. There is no existing access from
Lafayette Landings Drive, a private road, to the property.
Floodplain swamp is the dominant habitat within this property with
some small areas that may grade into hydric flatwoods. The
floodplain swamp habitat is a floodplain area for Little Haw Creek
that runs through the property. The swamp may include species such
as cabbage palm, laurel oak, sweetgum, blackgum, red maple, American
elm, water oak, Carolina ash, and cypress.
A conservation easement, jointly held by the County of Volusia and
the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD), encompasses
the adjoining property, owned by Plum Creek Timberlands, to the east
of the site. In addition, it is in close proximity to the
Timberlands Consolidated property, a 2003 joint acquisition of the
County and the SJRWMD. |
