About the Citizens Academy
Applications are now being accepted for the 2015 Volusia County Citizens Academy. The class starts Aug. 18 and will meet every Tuesday through Nov. 3. Please print, complete and return the class application by July 24. Additional information is on the applicatoin.

The Citizens Academy is a 12-week, hands-on awareness program designed to educate citizens about county government operations. Members meet at various county facilities including the Emergency Operations and Sheriff's Communications Center, Tomoka Landfill, Volusia County Branch Jail, Marine Science Center, Ocean Center and Daytona Beach International Airport. They also tour county construction projects. Topics include growth management, community services, public protection, property assessments and budgets.
To participate, you must be a resident of Volusia County and at least 21 years of age. Basic knowledge of computers is helpful as class materials are posted online and email is used to communicate with class members. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge for the program, but applicants are asked to commit to attending all 12 classes.
