Mission: To provide quality and timely engineering
services in support of Volusia County's construction
projects.
What they are doing to be
more “green”
The Engineering and Construction Division is being
“green” by recycling asphalt in its mixes. In 2004,
Engineering and Construction incorporated a change
in the annual resurfacing contract, as and contracts
awarded after enactment that allowed use of up to
30-percent recycled asphalt product (RAP) in asphalt
production. RAP is a readily available commodity in
this area and is composed of the milled surface of
old roads that are being resurfaced. RAP is treated
with a rejuvenating solution when it is introduced
into virgin mixes, and the overall quality of the
end product does not suffer. This adjustment, over
the last four years, has resulted in substantial
savings over older, virgin mixes. This saves green
by being “green!”
