"Ask a Librarian" brings the
help desk to your computer
A new reference tool offers an
alternative to library help desk visits. Volusia County librarians have
joined other public, private and academic librarians to operate a
virtual reference desk online.
Live 'Ask a Librarian' help is
available online at the Volusia County Public Library website
www.vcpl.lib.fl.us or
statewide at
http://info.askalibrarian.org, between 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.,
Monday - Friday.
"Ask a Librarian" is a rapidly
growing collaborative service offering virtual reference assistance to
more than 16 million citizens throughout Florida. It extends the reach
of traditional library reference services by linking users to live,
one-on-one assistance by a librarian, or to a database of answers to
similar questions.
The service, featuring real-time chat
and the ability to escort a patron's browser, is part of the Florida
Electronic Library. It is funded through a Library Services and
Technology Act (LSTA) grant administered by the Florida Department of
State Division of Library and Information Services.
For information or an account, please
visit your local Volusia County library branch.
