Free internet access at Volusia County public libraries

The Volusia County Public Library offers free Internet access via Internet Explorer at all branches. Librarians and patrons no longer are limited to the printed page. They can expand their quest for information to the unlimited boundaries of the virtual universe.

E-mail services are another major development provided online. Anyone can set up a free e-mail address through various online services, without having to own a computer or pay a service fee.

How it works

  • The library has its own "start up" home page linked from here as the library connection which serves as a link to information on health, life, news, information for kids and more. Sign up at the library, and use the service there or at your home computer.
  • When you first sit down at the library computer, go to Bookmarks to get started.
  • Bookmarks will take you to a Web Page where you can bounce to other sites: or 'Surf the Net.'

Other uses

  • Check the weather. "The Weather Channel" is on the favorites button or "bookmarks."
  • Avoid paying too much for an upcoming major purchase. You'll find "Consumer Price Index" on the favorites button or "bookmarks.
  • Plan a trip.
  • Find family members for family reunions, or search your family genealogy (also bookmarked.
  • Find new friends on a chat room.

Still unsure how to use the Internet? Check your branch for classes or ask your librarian for help.

Future plans include the library's own Internet Web Server which would allow the Library to explore new areas of the Internet.

To find out what it's all about, check with your local library branch for any regulations on scheduling time on the Internet.
