October events at the Ocean Center

This October, the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach continues to welcome events for young and old, dancers and racers. Upcoming events include step competitions, college pep rallies, a home show and supercross motorcycling.

The National Collegiate Step Competition is coming to the Ocean Center Oct. 3, bringing with it a world of rhythm, dance, and music. The competition among college students will culminate in prizes and trophies, and is a joint booking effort of the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Ocean Center.

Approximately 2,500 guests are expected to attend, according to promoters. It’s the first time the National Collegiate Step Competition will be at the Ocean Center. Tickets are on sale now at the Ocean Center box office and through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or
Ticketmaster. Adult tickets are $25. Tickets will be $10 for children ages 2 - 12. Children under 2 will be admitted free. Applicable service charges apply.

On Oct. 22, the Ocean Center will host the Bethune Cookman University (BCU) Step Competition at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be $13 for ages 13 and up, $10 for BCU students with a valid school ID and yellow activities sticker attached, and $10 for children 1 - 12. Children under 1 are free on a parent's lap. Tickets are on sale now at the Ocean Center box office, through
Ticketmaster, at Ticketmaster retail outlets, or (800) 745-3000. Applicable services charges will apply.

On Oct. 23, the Bethune-Cookman University Homecoming Pep Rally will roar into the facility. The two events will kick off BCU’s Homecoming Week and are open to the public.

From Oct. 23 - 25, the Daytona Beach News-Journal’s Home Show 2009 will return to the exhibit hall. The event is free and open to the public. Exhibitors will display home-related products and services, and continuous seminars will offer home and gardening tips. The show will be from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday.

On Oct. 31, Finish Line Productions’ ECRA Florida Pro-AM SX Series, a supercross series, will hold its second of four rounds of competition. Doors will open at 9 a.m. Practices and time trails will lead up to the 7 p.m. supercross competitions. Tickets are $20 for adults (13 and up) and $15 for children 12 and under.

Also on the facility’s calendar in October are the Republican Executive Committee of Volusia County Dinner (Oct. 17), Mid-Florida Pop Warner Cheer Championship (Oct. 24) and the Health & Human Services Summit (Oct. 30).
