Tornado Updates

The County authorized homeowners over the weekend to make emergency repairs without a permit. However, permits after the fact must be obtained from the city or county building permit offices. In no case, will building permits be waived. Reroof and electrical permit applications by licensed contractors can be faxed, with original documents to follow, in order to expedite the process.

General Storm Information  (Agency contacts and debris handling instructions)

Mold Contaminated Salvage (Health Dept. news release)

Repairs to Commercial and Condominium Buildings

Building permit fees for storm damage will be waived using these forms:
Storm Affidavit - Contractor
Storm Affidavit - Owner

Tree debris - after 12:00 PM contact is Beck Disaster Recovery  877-237-7782.

Temporary Trailers - Travel trailers on tornado damaged sites will not require a building permit for installation.  Only an electrical permit is required.  However, you must obtain Health Department (386-775-5289) approval for use of well and septic system.  FEMA will provide written notification to the county health department of the intent to place a temporary trailer on an individual lot and connect it to the existing onsite sewage system on that lot. FEMA inspector / contractor is responsible for ensuring trailer is not placed over any part of onsite system and that there is no visible damage to onsite system. Trailers will not be connected to an onsite system where there is indication that a sanitary nuisance will be caused. County health departments will not assess any fees or conduct any inspections of these installations. If a failure should occur after connection, county health departments will follow standard repair procedures and fees. Standard procedures and fees will apply to reviewing repair or modification of the permanent residence.

Temporary Mobile Homes
 - A building permit is required for installation of mobile homes, including park model RVs.  Please use the checklist.

Residential demolition and rebuild
- A demolition permit is required to complete the removal of construction material from a property before rebuilding.  Construction demolition material can not be put at the curb for pickup.  The demolition permit application can be by a contractor or an owner builder.  The only documentation required is the application with the square footage of the building.  Any building repair and all new construction must  follow the proper building permit process.  Please refer to main page for further information.

Mobile Homes - Owners of mobile homes may apply for permits for replacement, however a licensed mobile home set up contractor must be listed on the permit.
