LPGA Brushfire update #4
There was no increase to the fire's intensity during the overnight hours as
fire crews continued to widen the perimeter of fire breaks. The large
brushfire has the potential to become extremely active today due to wind
speed and expected direction change, and low humidity levels.
The mandatory evacuation order for the LPGA subdivision remains in effect;
however, special needs residents will be allowed limited access to retrieve
medications. Daytona Beach police officers, stationed at LPGA Blvd. and
International Speedway Blvd., will require residents to present
identification verifying their address. Residents are asked to retrieve
essentials and leave as quickly as possible. No commercial access will be
permitted.
Residents of Bayberry Lakes subdivision, where the voluntary evacuation
order was lifted last night, are asked to remain on stand by as winds are
expected to shift around mid-day.
Officials estimate that about 50% of residents in the LPGA area have
evacuated.
The emergency shelter at the Hampton Inn remains available, according to the
American Red Cross. Currently there are no residents at the shelter.
The Hilton, 100 N. Atlantic Avenue, has offered a discounted rate of $59 to
evacuees. Positive identification is required. For more information, please
call 386-254-8200.
There will be a media briefing outside the command post at 10 a.m.
