Frequently Asked Questions

What is the goal of Volusia Prepares Business?
The goal is simple: bridge the gap between government and the private sector in the area of disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation.

What is meant by mitigation?
Mitigation means taking steps to avoid the disaster, or steps to minimize the impact of the disaster if it is unavoidable. As an example, window shutters "mitigate" against wind and water damage.

So, who is involved in Volusia Prepares Business?
VPB partners are from government, private industry, education and non-profits organizations. Founding partners included chambers of commerce, trade and professional associations, the Agricultural Extension Service and local colleges and universities.

Just what does Volusia Prepares Business Do?
Remember our goal is to "bridge the gap". To do that we have identified three objectives:

Provide training and guidance to the private sector
Develop a data-base of commonly needed resources following a disaster so both government and private companies can recover more quickly

Develop an operating base where we can identify the need of the partners and match them with resources in our community. We call this "base" the Business Coordination Center.

Are there fees or expenses involved in participating?
There are no fees to belonging to VPB, only a willingness to share and help others with the knowledge they will be there for your organization should you need help. Any expenses are strictly voluntary. For instance, a company might donate office equipment or furniture to the Business Coordination Center. Another might donate staff time to develop a data base. These "contributions" are voluntary.

What can Volusia Prepares Business do to help me?

Who can I speak to if I want to become a partner?
