Stormwater fee
increase information
With the stormwater fee
levied by Volusia County on developed unincorporated properties
scheduled to increase this fall, County officials want to remind
property owners they may qualify for a credit.
“We’re doing everything we can to get the
word out that some properties may qualify for a credit,” said Gary Cook,
Stormwater Utility Engineer.
Unincorporated Volusia property owners
may get a credit if their developed property has a stormwater management
facility that is operated and maintained properly. Stormwater
facilities which reduce pollutant discharge, flood impacts, or both may
qualify.
The Volusia County Council has approved a
stormwater fee increase from $30 to $72 annually per Equivalent
Residential Unit (ERU), effective on this fall’s property tax bills. The
fee is calculated on a formula that defines an ERU as 2,775 square feet
of impervious surface. As an example, a nonresidential developed
property that has 27,750 square feet of impervious surface would equal
10 ERUs multiplied times $72. The County uses the annual property tax
bill as a method to collect the nonproperty tax assessment.
Cook said property owners seeking a
credit must submit all required information no later than August 1 to be
eligible for credit on the property tax bill to be mailed in November.
However, stormwater credit applications may be submitted until November
1 and be eligible for the credit. Those credits will not be shown on the
property tax bill, but will be made as check issued to the owner or
property association.
