Vehicle registration renewal fees
increased Sept. 1, 2009

On Sept. 1, 2009, certain fees for driver license and motor vehicle services changed. These new fees were established by the Florida Legislature as part of the state’s budget development process. A list of fee increases is available at the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles web site.

If your birthday is before December, you may be able to renew your vehicle registration before state-mandated fee increases go into effect.

If your birthday is:

  • on or before Aug. 31, you can renew at the current rate by Aug. 31;
  • in September, you can renew early at the current rate by Aug. 31;
  • in October, you can renew early at the current rate between July 1 and Aug. 31; or
  • in November, you can renew early at the current rate between Aug. 1 and 31.

You can save additional money by renewing for two years.

Avoid long lines and renew online*
*A postage fee of 70 cents  for registration certificate/decal or $2.15 for a license plate is charged for all online renewals.
