To apply for a new Volusia
County Business Tax Receipt, please review the checklist
below, then use the
link at the bottom of the page to navigate to the Online Application.
Businesses that do not have a
physical location in Volusia County are not required to obtain a Volusia
County Business Tax Receipt.
Checklist
1. If your business is regulated
by a state agency, you will be asked for your state license number. If
you have not already obtained your state license, you must do so before you
can apply for a County Business Tax Receipt. Click here for a list of

2. Proof of Fictitious
Name Registration is required per FS 205.023 unless you are exempt. Click here
for a list of possible exemptions. Fictitious Name Registration
information can be found at
www.sunbiz.org.
3. If your business is
located within the limits of any city, you must acquire that city’s Business
Tax Receipt before you can apply for a County Business Tax Receipt.
4. If your business is to
be operated from a home that is zoned as "Residential, Agricultural or MH3 or
MH4" in the unincorporated area of Volusia County, you will be required to
follow the Home Occupation regulations which can be obtained from the Volusia
County Zoning office.

All commercial businesses in the unincorporated area of Volusia County are
subject to inspection by our Building Department and Fire Marshall. After the
inspections, those respective officials will approve or deny your Business Tax
Receipt application.
- If the application is denied, those
officials will inform you of what needs to be done for your building to comply
with Volusia County codes.
- Once your application
is approved, the Revenue Division will send you a bill for the Local
Business Tax that is due.
6. If your business is
classified as a "Hazardous Waste Generator" then an additional fee may be
collected along with the Business Tax. For information on hazardous waste,
please contact the
Volusia County
Pollution Control Division.
