DECISION DELTONA

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office
vs.
Deltona Police Department

It is a distinct privilege for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office to have been providing a full range of law enforcement services to the residents of Deltona since the community incorporated into a City in December 1995. As Deltonans and their elected leaders debate the future of law enforcement services for the City, the Sheriff’s Office embarked on a project to gather information and relevant statistics regarding law enforcement personnel, programs and costs. The goal was to provide the community with empirical data about the cost and scope of services it presently receives through the City’s contract with the Sheriff’s Office as well as comparative information from police departments in Florida cities that are similar in size and population to that of Deltona. The result was a 146-page Reference Information Guide that can be accessed by clicking on the link below.

In the Reference Information Guide, you will find information about Deltona’s law enforcement budget, personnel allocation, crime rate, calls for service and response times. The Guide also lays out the full scope of the Sheriff’s Office’s resources, civilian support structure and specialized crime-fighting equipment and Units that are made available to Deltona at no additional cost to the City’s taxpayers. In order to make meaningful evaluations regarding costs and services, the Reference Information Guide also contains comparative data for a number of police departments throughout Florida, including Boca Raton, Davie, Daytona Beach, DeLand, Lakeland, Ormond Beach, Palm Bay, Plantation and Port Orange.

It is our sincere hope that the information compiled in the Reference Information Guide will be useful to Deltona residents and assist the community in making an informed decision that satisfies the City’s public safety and financial needs and serves the best interests of all concerned.
