The victim was reported missing by her family after she failed to return home from DeLand High School. About 90 minutes later, the victim's body was located in a secluded area behind a home on Deerfoot Road that had burned down about a year prior to the killing. The victim, who died of multiple gunshot wounds, routinely walked home from her bus stop at South Spring Garden Avenue and Deerfoot Road, not far from where her body was found.
