SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING DELAND SHOOTING
Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies continued their search late Monday evening for the suspect in a shooting near DeLand that injured a teenage boy. The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Applegate Mobile Home Park off of S.R. 11 north of DeLand after receiving a call about the shooting at 9 p.m. Monday evening. The victim, believed to be 18 years old, was being treated in the emergency room at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach after being transported there by an EVAC ambulance unit that arrived at the hospital at 9:45 p.m. Officials said the wound did not appear to be life-threatening.
Approximately seven patrol deputies along with a Sheriff’s Office helicopter and K-9 unit were searching late Monday for the suspect, processing the crime scene for clues and interviewing witnesses in an effort to determine what sparked the fight between the victim and suspect that led to the shooting. The victim’s name was not available Monday evening.
