SHERIFF’S OFFICE SEEKS HELP IN SOLVING BURGLARY

A flip-flop-wearing cigarette thief was caught on camera during an early morning smash and grab burglary of a DeBary convenience store early Friday morning. Investigators are releasing the store’s video surveillance and offering a reward of up to $1,000 through Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida in the hopes that someone with information about the suspect will come forward. A man with a scarf over his face smashed through the Hess Station’s glass front door and snatched cigarettes before making his getaway.

A newspaper delivery person found the smashed door at 96 N. Charles R. Beall Blvd. and called the Sheriff’s Office at about 3 a.m. On-scene evidence and the surveillance video revealed that the suspect used a landscaping stone to smash the door and then he dashed inside. The video documented that the man broke in at about 1:28 a.m. He’s believed to be a young, white man, approximately 5’9” tall.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Sheriff’s investigator Michael Agostinis at (386) 668-3830 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida toll-free at 1-888-277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
