PUBLIC’S
HELP SOUGHT IN LOCATING STABBING SUSPECT
The
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in
locating a suspect in Wednesday night’s double stabbing outside a bar
in Deltona. Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida is offering a reward of
up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of 23-year-old Troy
McKnight of Sanford.
According
to witnesses, the fight was sparked over an argument about whose turn it
was to use a pool table at The Sand Bar on Elkcam Boulevard. After a
verbal argument inside the bar, the two suspects left the business. But
when the victims left, the suspects were waiting outside. Both pulled
out knives and attacked the victims, 27-year-old Kenneth Johnson and
22-year-old Donald Draper. Both victims sustained multiple stab wounds
and were taken to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment.
After the fight, the suspects fled the scene -- one on foot and the
other in a pickup truck. A witness outside the bar jotted down the
truck’s tag number, which came back to McKnight. Investigators are
still working to identify the second suspect. Both victims remained
hospitalized on Thursday. One picked out McKnight from a photo lineup,
while the other was too groggy to attempt to make an identification.
Sheriff’s investigators have obtained an arrest warrant charging
McKnight with one count of aggravated battery, a 2nd-degree felony.
County Court Judge Peter Marshall signed the warrant on Thursday,
calling for McKnight to be held on $25,000 bond.
Anyone
with information on the whereabouts of McKnight or the identity of the
second suspect is asked to contact Sheriff’s investigator Ryan Mills
at (386) 860-7030 or Crime Stoppers toll-free at (888) 277-TIPS. Callers
to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of
up to $1,000.
