DELTONA BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT IDENTIFIED (UPDATE: SUSPECT CAPTURED)

VCSO Update: Wanted Bank Robbery Suspect Captured

Suspected bank robber Russell Conn was arrested on a warrant at his home early Tuesday afternoon. Conn had not been seen since the Thursday robbery of Bank of America in Deltona. However, he finally stopped by 1701 Bavon Drive Tuesday, and other people in the home called the Volusia County Sheriff's Office to report that he was there. Deputies took the 45-year-old into custody at approximately 12:14 p.m. without incident.

Original Release:

Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating a man suspected of robbing a Deltona bank last week. Acquaintances of Russell Conn identified him when they saw a newspaper article and picture about the robbery. They were familiar with the ski cap and sunglasses Conn wore and were confident he was the person whose images was captured on the bank’s surveillance cameras.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Thursday, bank employees from Bank of America, 2745 Elkcam Blvd., called the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office to report that a man had just robbed a teller, and even had his own bag with him to carry away the money. He had slid a note demanding money to the teller, stashed the money she handed over into his bag and walked away. No gun was displayed and no one was injured during the brief encounter. The man was last seen walking toward a gas station across the street from the bank.

The next day someone who knew Conn saw a newspaper article about the robbery and the accompanying photo. She immediately recognized Conn and took the article to others who know him. They all agreed that the photo was of Conn, not only because of his appearance, but also due to the familiar cap and sunglasses he wore. They then reported their discovery to the Sheriff’s Office.

Conn is a white male, approximately 5’9” and weighing about 160 pounds. He’s bald and has brown eyes. He’s lived in Deltona, but has also been known to frequent the Spring Hill area of DeLand. He drives a 1991 white Ford Ranger with license number V86-5QE. Investigators obtained a warrant Tuesday for Conn charging him with robbery with a bond of $25,000.

Anyone with information about Conn’s whereabouts is asked to contact investigator Tom Sylvester at (386) 860-7030 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida toll-free at 1-888-277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
