ROBBERS HOLD UP DEBARY CONVENIENCE STORE
The
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early Thursday
morning robbery in DeBary. Two gun-wielding men entered the convenience
store and demanded money from the two clerks. While one robber grabbed
cash from the registers, the other helped himself to a few cartons of
cigarettes. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Deputies
were notified at approximately 12:55 a.m. that the Kangaroo Express at
399 S. Charles R. Beall Blvd. had just been robbed. The two clerks, who
were the only ones in the store at the time of the robbery, told
responding deputies that two black males wearing hooded sweaters and
bandannas covering the lower half of their faces entered the store. One
man had a handgun and the other had a long gun, possibly a shotgun. The
one with the handgun demanded money from both of the store’s
registers. A clerk opened them for him and the robber snatched up the
cash. While he was doing that, the robber with the long gun grabbed a
few cartons of cigarettes. The 38-year-old clerk told deputies that the
men then left and she heard them say, “thank you.” The 19-year-old
clerk saw the men get into a silver car with dents on the rear passenger
side and drive away.
Several
deputies and a Sheriff’s Office helicopter began converging on scene
within two minutes of getting the call and started setting up a
perimeter, but the robbers were not found. The robber with the handgun
was a black male, approximately 5’10” tall and 175 pounds. The other
suspect was a black male, approximately 6’2” tall and 210 pounds.
