WOMAN
SLIGHTLY INJURED WHEN STOLEN SUV CRASHES INTO HOME
A 32-year-old
Deltona woman was awakened early Saturday morning by a piece of concrete
block that struck her in the head after a stolen Jeep Cherokee crashed
into her house. The incident, which is under investigation by the
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, unfolded shortly after 5 a.m. The SUV
was traveling south on Giovanni Street when it crossed over into the
northbound lane, ran a stop sign at Bailey Avenue and then skidded off
the road. The SUV crashed into 1218 Bailey Ave., where the homeowner,
Tyrene Perez, was asleep. Neighbors who heard the crash said they saw
several juveniles fleeing from the wrecked vehicle.
While
her injuries weren’t serious, Perez was taken by EVAC ambulance to
Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City complaining of head and
neck pain. Meanwhile, deputies investigating the crash discovered that
the ignition to the SUV had been punched out. About 3 miles from the
scene, the owner of the SUV called a half hour after the crash to report
that her vehicle had been stolen from her driveway. The investigation is
continuing.
