SHERIFF'S
OFFICE LOOKING FOR BURGLAR
The
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in
locating a man who dashed out of a home he was trying to burglarize near
DeLand when the homeowner walked in on him Monday morning. Reb Boyd,
along with an unknown partner, then tried to escape from deputies by
driving into a rural area of Lake County, abandoning their car and
fleeing on foot through a wooded area.
The
incident started at 3009 Grand Ave. when the homeowner returned from
taking his dog to the vet. As the 73-year-old man drove around to the
back of his house at about 9:40 a.m. he noticed that a window had been
broken. He then walked inside through the back door, announced his
presence and asked if anyone was there. That’s when Boyd ran from a
bedroom and made a hasty exit through the front door. Boyd jumped into a
car driven by another person and the car sped away. Found inside the
house after Boyd left were pillowcases stuffed with property. Even
though he left that stuff behind, it’s believed that Boyd may have
gotten away with some jewelry.
Responding
deputies found Boyd and his partner driving nearby and tried to conduct
a traffic stop, but the pair sped away. A Sheriff’s Office helicopter
then trailed the car as it crossed over into Lake County. The suspects
eventually bailed out of their car on a dirt road northwest of Paisley
and eluded the Volusia County and Lake County deputies who converged on
the area. However, the car they left behind was traced to Boyd’s
relatives who said the 30-year-old had borrowed the car.
Boyd
is a white male, 5’8” tall and 150 pounds. He has brown hair and
brown eyes. His last known address is 31906 Hillside Drive, DeLand.
Investigators obtained a warrant Tuesday charging Boyd with burglary of
a dwelling. Anyone with information about Boyd’s whereabouts or his
partner is asked to contact Sheriff's investigator Trever Henderson at
(386) 943-7866 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida toll-free at
1-888-277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can
qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
