DEPUTIES FIND METH LAB INSIDE GARAGE OF DELTONA HOME

Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies who went to a Deltona home Sunday night in search of a wanted man found more than they were looking for -- all the makings of makeshift lab for manufacturing methamphetamines.

Deputies were dispatched to 722 Nardello Drive at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday night after receiving a tip that 40-year-old Jerry Shaw was at the house. Shaw is wanted in Marion County for a probation violation associated with a charge of possession of methamphetamines. The homeowner denied that Shaw was in the house, but allowed deputies to look around. They found Shaw hiding in a bedroom closet. And that’s not all deputies found. After detecting a strong chemical odor coming from the garage, deputies spotted a clandestine meth lab.

Patrol units took Shaw into custody and notified the Volusia Bureau of Investigation (VBI) of their findings. VBI agents responded to the home to dismantle the lab, seizing chemicals, glassware and improvised generators. While Shaw is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on the Marion County warrant, VBI is continuing its investigation into the meth lab and additional charges against Shaw are pending. VBI is a multi-agency task force that pools resources from nine local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in order to target mid- and upper-level narcotics traffickers as well as racketeering and organized crime. Participating agencies include the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Attorney’s General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution, Daytona Beach Police Department, Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety, DeLand Police Department, Port Orange Police Department, New Smyrna Beach Police Department and the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
