TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED AFTER ARMED ATTACK AT DELTONA HOME

Armed intruders targeted a home on Kimberly Drive in Deltona early Saturday morning and fired a shot into the ceiling during the attack. However, it didn’t take long for Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies to round up two of the three suspects who are believed to be responsible for the assault. More investigation, though, will be required before the suspects face more serious charges. Investigators also are continuing their efforts to positively identify the third suspect.

According to the victims, a 28-year-old man and 20-year-old woman, two of the suspects came to the their door shortly before 2 a.m. on Saturday morning. The male victim opened the door and was immediately sprayed in the face with an unknown substance. He said he tried to fight off the intruders, who demanded money and drugs. After the attack was over, the suspects fled the home and ran to the next street over on Alamanda Avenue, where they hopped into a waiting SUV with a third suspect inside. However they didn’t get far because one of the first responding deputies spotted the vehicle and followed it as it left the neighborhood. About four blocks away, on East Dana Drive, one of the passengers jumped out of the moving vehicle and took off running. The vehicle continued down East Dana Drive for a short distance before the other two occupants bailed out. The SUV rolled onto the side of the road and struck a couple of mailboxes before coming to a stop. Deputies recovered a handgun from inside the vehicle.

One of the occupants, 23-year-old Tyson Chance of Deltona, gave up immediately and was arrested after deputies discovered that he had an open warrant for a probation violation. Another suspect, 22-year-old Deon McWhorter of Deltona, was captured after he ran down the street and right into his own house at 2218 E. Dana Drive. He was charged with giving a false name to a law enforcement officer, driving without a license and two counts of resisting arrest without violence. Both defendants were transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach. The investigation into the home invasion is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
