CROSSING GUARD LOCATIONS TO CHANGE FOR NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Pursuant to a decision by Volusia County’s school crossing evaluation committee, several changes in the assignment of crossing guards serving local elementary schools will take place when the new school year begins on Aug. 18. Precipitated by budget reductions, the changes will result in guards no longer being posted at eight crossings. The locations were selected by the school crossing guard committee that evaluates crossing locations to determine the areas of greatest need and usage.

In addition, one new staffed crossing will be added at Howland Boulevard and Clarion Drive to service the new Pride Elementary School in Deltona. The locations that will no longer have a posted crossing guard are as follows:

  • Coronado Beach Elementary School, New Smyrna Beach
    Saxon Drive/Sandpiper Avenue
  • Deltona Lakes Elementary School, Deltona
    Adelia Boulevard at the school
  • Enterprise Elementary School, Enterprise
    Enterprise Road/Deltona Middle School
  • Friendship Elementary School, Deltona
    Elkcam Boulevard/Florida Drive
  • Orange City Elementary School, Orange City
    West French Avenue/Orange Avenue
  • Manatee Cove Elementary School, Orange City
West Blue Springs Avenue at the school
  • Sugar Mill Elementary School, Port Orange
    Old Sugar Mill Road/Herbert Street
  • Timbercrest Elementary School, Deltona
