TWO SHOT IN DELTONA

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting in Deltona that sent a teenager to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. An adult female was also struck by a bullet. Deputies are still actively looking for suspects and trying to determine the sequence of events.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the shooting at approximately 5:55 a.m. Deputies responded to 2860 Brighton Ave. to find a 16-year-old boy shot once in the chest and once in the arm. He was then airlifted by Sheriff’s Office helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. A second victim was also on scene, the teen's 35-year-old mother, who had a gunshot wound through a leg. She was taken by EVAC ambulance to Halifax Health Medical Center. None of the victims' injuries are life threatening.

Preliminarily, the shooting doesn’t appear to be random. Witnesses told investigators that suspects knocked on the victim's door early in the morning and the victims and other witnesses inside answered. The two groups started talking, but the conversation escalated into an argument and then a physical fight. Finally, several shots were fired, striking the teen and his mother. The suspects fled before deputies arrived on scene.

The victims' names have not been released as the investigation is still ongoing.
