CRESCENT CITY TEEN INJURED IN SHOOTING

A Crescent City teenager was hospitalized Wednesday night after sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper chest. The victim, 17-year-old David Miranda, was driven by friends from Putnam County into Volusia. While on their way to the hospital, one of the passengers called 911 and a Sheriff’s Office telecommunicator convinced the group to pull over at a convenience store in Barberville. Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies met Miranda in the parking lot, helped treat his wound and called for a Sheriff’s Office helicopter to airlift the victim to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

The other two occupants of the car initially told deputies that the victim had accidentally shot himself and the gun had been tossed out the window. However, after further questioning, the two said that Miranda had been shot by someone else in Crescent City. Volusia deputies are still investigating to determine where and how the shooting took place. The victim’s injury was not believed to be life-threatening.
