DEPUTIES SET STAGE FOR SATURDAY EASTER EGG HUNT

The Easter Bunny will get a little help from its friends on Saturday, when Volusia County Sheriff's deputies set the stage for their annual egg hunt for DeLand area youngsters. The event will begin at 10 a.m. on the north grounds of Southwestern Middle School, 605 New Hampshire Ave., DeLand. Children from toddler to fifth grade are invited to bring along a basket, join in the hunt and vie for prizes. The event is being sponsored by the West Volusia Police Athletic League, the Sheriff’s Office’s District 2 headquarters in DeLand, the Orange City Blue Spring Manatee Festival and the DeLand Pennysaver.

Deputies and volunteers will be hiding approximately 3,000 candy-filled eggs for the children to test their skills at finding them. Egg hunters will be divided into three age groups: ages 1 to 3; 4 to 7; and 8 to 10. Prizes will be awarded in each age category.

"Last year's hunt was a big success. The deputies and volunteers are hoping for a great turnout again this year," said Capt. Shane Summers, District 2 commander for the Sheriff’s Office.
