ONE INJURED IN SHOOTING OUTSIDE HOME IN DELTONA

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting overnight in Deltona that sent a 27-year-old man to the hospital with what’s believed to be non-life threatening injuries. Deputies were dispatched to 1125 Mayflower Ave. after receiving a 911 call about the shooting at 11:46 p.m. Deputies began arriving at the scene less than three minutes after the 911 call came in to find Marc Johnston bleeding from gunshot wounds to the side and hip.

The victim’s girlfriend told deputies that the two were inside the home when Johnston heard a noise outside. Johnston armed himself with a gun and went outside to investigate. The victim reportedly confronted two Black men in the carport and gunfire was exchanged. The suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle. Paramedics with the Deltona Fire Department and EVAC ambulance responded to the scene to treat Johnston, who was then airlifted by Sheriff’s Office helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
