ONE MAN
DEAD IN SHOOTING NEAR DELAND
A
search is on for a gunman who burst into a home near
DeLand late Tuesday night and shot and killed a man.
The victim is believed to be 33-years-old, but his
identity isn’t being released until family members
are notified. Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators
don’t believe the killing was random.
The
shooting occurred at a home on Helen Drive. The
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office received the initial
call at 11:19 p.m. from a neighbor on Pearl Street
who reported hearing yelling and multiple gunshots.
Three minutes later, a man called 911 to report that
a masked intruder had barged into the house and shot
his friend. The caller said the victim wasn’t
breathing, and when deputies began arriving at the
scene at 11:25 p.m. they confirmed that the victim
was dead. His body was found outside of the home at
1256 Helen Drive.

Update 12/09/09 - 3:35 p.m.
An autopsy
conducted Wednesday by the Volusia County Medical
Examiner’s Office has confirmed that the victim died
as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. He has been
positively identified as 33-year-old Tymon Ross.
