ROBBERY
AT WACHOVIA BANK IN DELTONA UNDER INVESTIGATION
A lone robber held up the Wachovia Bank on
Deltona Boulevard
in Deltona Monday morning. No one was injured in the robbery, which
occurred shortly after 11 a.m. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is
investigating.
Patrol deputies began converging on the bank within two minutes of the
robbery being called in to the Sheriff’s Office at 11:12 a.m. While
several deputies headed straight to the bank, other units fanned out
along main thoroughfares and other key escape routes to search for the
suspect. A Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and helicopter also assisted in
the search. As of noon on Monday, the robber had not been located.
Witnesses said the suspect walked into the bank and handed a stick-up
note to a teller. The teller complied with the robber’s demand and
turned over an undetermined amount of money. The suspect, who didn’t
display a weapon, then fled the bank with the money and made his
get-away. The suspect was described as a white man believed to be in his
late 40s, with a medium build and dark hair. He was wearing a
dark-colored jacket and red hat and had a white bandage on his face. A
description of his pants and shoes wasn’t available. Anyone with
information about the robbery is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at
(386) 860-7030 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at
(888) 277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can
qualify for a reward of up to $1,000. Information can also be
anonymously sent to Crime Stoppers by texting “TIP231 plus the
message” to CRIMES.
