DELTONA CRIME
SUPPRESSION OPERATION A SUCCESS
A wide-ranging
crime suppression operation Friday sent a clear message to the
residents in the Deltona, Enterprise and Osteen areas: the
Volusia County Sheriff's Office is serious about reducing
opportunities for crime. The multiple operation objectives
produced a dozen arrests, the recovery of stolen vehicle parts
and nearly 150 traffic citations. "We'll continue to proactively
do all we can to make the community safe," said Capt. Dave
Brannon, commander of the Sheriff's Office's District 4, which
provides law enforcement to the area.
Traffic safety
was just one element of the operation, which involved 36 law
enforcement officers and ran from 2 p.m. to midnight. A
combination of high visibility and low-profile traffic
enforcement resulted in 224 traffic stops and 146 citations.
Another focus was a joint effort involving deputies from various
Sheriff's Office units working alongside officers from Parole
and Probation. They served three arrest warrants for violation
of probation and also conducted address verifications on seven
sexual predators. Meanwhile, a joint auto theft task force made
up of investigators from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office,
Seminole County Sheriff's Office and Daytona Beach Police
Department identified and recovered various stolen vehicle
parts, including two stolen engines.
