2008 CRIME PREVENTION ART CONTEST
The
Port Orange Police Department Crime Prevention Unit in
cooperation with Wal-Mart recently completed the 2008 Port
Orange Art Contest for all six Port Orange Elementary Schools.
This was the fourth consecutive year for this event. A total
of 1,550 entries were received from the six elementary
schools, Kindergarten through fifth grade. Students used their
creative talents and thoughts to draw a picture on “How to
stop crime in our city.” Judging was based on imagination,
creativity, and overall artistic talents.
Winners
will be recognized at the Port Orange City Council Meeting on
Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008. The judges for this year’s event
were Mrs. Lil Berard, Community Involvement Coordinator for
Wal-Mart, Kevin Robinson, Manager of the Port Orange Wal-Mart,
Vice Mayor of Port Orange Mary Martin, Robin Lasky, Assistant
Vice President of Riverside Bank, Debbie Connors of the Port
Orange/South Daytona Chamber of Commerce and Captain Wayne M.
Miller of the Port Orange Police Department. The six First
Place winners were:

Along
with a First Place Certificate, all six-contest winners will
receive a brand new bicycle and helmet compliments of Port
Orange Wal-Mart Super Center. Their winning artwork and
pictures will be on display at the Port Orange City Library.
