POLICE DEPARTMENT WINS NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY AWARD
The
Port Orange Police Department has recently been advised from
the International Association of the Chief’s of Police (IACP),
that its agency was chosen as a first place winner in the
National Highway Safety Administration Law Enforcement
Challenge. The Port Orange Police Department was selected as
number one in the nation as being the best in the “Impaired
Drivers” category. The Port Orange Police Department
prevailed over 560 other police agencies nationwide that were
categorized and judged in mid May 2008 at the IACP
headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.
This
National award represents the tireless efforts of all the
officers and encompasses our prevention, education and
enforcement efforts to traffic safety in the City of Port
Orange. Providing a safe and secure environment in the
community continues to be the mission of the Port Orange
Police Department. DUI prevention, reducing crashes and
injuries and saving lives on our roadways is a component of
this commitment.
Port
Orange Police Chief Gerald M. Monahan, Jr. will be honored to
accept the award which will be officially presented at the
IACP Highway Safety Awards Breakfast at the annual IACP
conference being held in San Diego in November, where all
category winners will be awarded.
This
award demonstrates that the men and women of the Port Orange
Police Department remain committed to maintaining a standard
of excellence to facilitate the best possible service to the
residents of the City of Port Orange.
