NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME
The
Port Orange Police Department will be hosting its annual
“National Night out Against Crime” Block Party on Tuesday
August 5, 2008 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Kenneth
Parker Amphitheatre located at the City Center Complex.
National
Night Out Against Crime was designed over 25 years ago to
heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate
participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen
neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and
send a message to criminals letting them know that
neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back. Last
year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law
enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood
organizations and local officials from over 11,000 communities
from all 50 states. In all, over 35 million people
participated in the 2007 National Night Out campaign.
Traditionally
a display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils take place
with cities, towns and neighborhoods celebrating National
Night Out with a variety of events. In keeping with this
traditional event, the Port Orange Police Department will host
its annual Block Party for all to enjoy giving drugs and crime
a going away party.
