MAN CRITICALLY INJURED IN MORNING
ACCIDENT
On
this date at 11:44 AM, Port Orange Police and Fire Departments
responded to the scene of an automobile accident at the
intersection of Madeline Avenue and Nova Road. Upon arrival,
officers observed two vehicles involved in the accident; a
1998 Florida Power and Light International utility bucket
truck and a 2002 Mazda passenger sedan. The Florida Power and
Light truck was driven by 50 year old Donald C. Sherrill of
Deltona, Florida and the Mazda passenger vehicle was driven by
92 year old George Hruska of Port Orange, Florida. Preliminary
investigation indicates the FP&L truck was traveling north
bound on Nova Road and the Mazda sedan was east bound on
Madeline Avenue. The front of the FP&L vehicle had
collided into the passenger side of the Mazda with both
vehicles coming to rest at the northeast corner of the
intersection.
Sherrill
did not appear to be injured. Hruska was unconscious upon the
officer’s arrival and was immediately removed from the
vehicle by Port Orange Fire and Rescue and was transported to
Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach via EVAC ambulance.
Hruska was listed in critical condition according to the
hospital charge nurse.
Port
Orange Police are continuing with the investigation and
charges are pending.
