                                  PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER VEHICLE ACCIDENT  

At 1:11 AM on this date, Port Orange Police and Fire Departments responded to the 3500 block of Ridgewood Avenue in regards to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident. Once on scene it was discovered that a passenger vehicle, traveling south bound on Ridgewood Avenue, struck a pedestrian that was attempting to cross Ridgewood Avenue. After impact  with the pedestrian, the vehicle struck a fire hydrant and came to rest onto its roof at the intersection of Ocean Avenue.

The pedestrian was pronounced expired at the scene. The sole occupant of the vehicle, a male, was transported to Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach with non-life threatening injuries. Both names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. 

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday November 17, 2008. The accident is under investigation by Port Orange Police Traffic Homicide investigators.
