VEHICLE
AND MOPED ACCIDENT UNDER INVESTIGATION
At
6:00 PM on 12/20/08, Port Orange Police and Fire Rescue
Departments responded to the intersection of Clyde Morris Blvd
and Southwinds Blvd regarding an accident involving a
passenger vehicle and a moped. Once on scene it was discovered
that 49 year old Kevin P. Cassily of New Bury Port,
Massachusetts was operating a Honda passenger vehicle and was
in the southbound left turn lane of Clyde Morris Blvd at
Southwinds Blvd. 21 year old Frank M. Yacek of Daytona Beach
was operating his moped northbound on Clyde Morris Blvd in the
outside right lane. Cassily attempted to turn left onto
Southwinds Blvd and turned in front of Yacek. This action
caused the two vehicles to collide. Yacek was subsequently
ejected from the moped. Yacek was transported to Halifax
Medical Center in Daytona Beach via EVAC ambulance with
multiple injuries and is listed in critical condition. Cassily
was not injured.
The
accident is under investigation by Port Orange Police Traffic
Homicide investigators due to the extent of injuries sustained
by Yacek.
