                     MAN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ON A POLICE OFFICER                  

On 01/01/09 at approximately 1045 hours, Port Orange Police Responded to a suspicious vehicle at the rear of Kohl’s Department store. Officers on scene observed a subject inside the vehicle behind Kohl’s and ordered him to exit the vehicle. The subject refused and fled east behind the store in his vehicle. The suspect intentionally drove towards Officer Sean Sheridan’s patrol vehicle arriving on scene only swerving at the last minute avoiding a collision.  

Units pursued this vehicle with lights and siren north on Williamson Blvd toward Daytona Beach. The Daytona Beach Police were advised of Port Orange Police Units pursuing this vehicle. The vehicle continued north bound on Williamson Blvd into the city of Daytona Beach. The vehicle turned east on Mason Avenue and then left on Jimmy Ann Drive ultimately turning right onto Clyde Morris Blvd. The vehicle turned into Catalina Health Care located at 820 Clyde Morris Blvd in Daytona Beach and drove over curbs on this  property finally coming to a stop at  this location as it was unable to drive across a large ditch and became disabled. The driver fled from the vehicle on foot with Port Orange Officers pursuing the suspect on foot. After a short foot pursuit, Port Orange Officers captured the suspect near Catalina Health Care. The suspect had property stolen from Kohl’s Department store totaling just over $10,000.  

The suspect arrested was identified as 32 year old Fredrick E. Davis of Daytona Beach, Florida. He was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Felony larceny (shoplifting), fleeing and attempting to elude police, resisting without violence and driving with a suspended license. He was transported to VCBJ on $10,000 bond.
