Case #2009-000392

TWO ARRESTED IN ROBBERY OF DELIVERY DRIVER

On January 12, 2009 at approximately 9:24 pm the Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant received a take-out order via phone, the order was worth $ 22.99 and the delivery was to be made at an address on Bayview Lane in Port Orange. When the driver arrived on scene Nicholas Rautio(18) and the co-defendant Devontae Brown(17) made contact with the driver in the driveway.

Devontae Brown pulled out a dark colored firearm and ordered the driver to get on the ground; Nicholas Rautio then placed the driver in a headlock and forced him to the ground. The driver’s wallet and Chinese food were stolen and the suspects fled the area on foot.

A neighborhood canvass led the Port Orange Police Department to 1135 Greenbriar Avenue which is one street over from Bayview Lane. Contact was made with Nicholas Rautio in his bedroom along with Devontae Brown. Inside of the bedroom the Chinese food order and receipt was located, a black in color BB gun resembling the firearm in question, as well as other items of evidence to link both individuals to the armed robbery.

Detective Steve Braddock and Officer Jeffrey Wenzel then arrested both individuals and charged them with Armed Robbery. Nicholas Rautio (18) was charged with Armed Robbery and Battery then transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail under a $21,000 bond. Devontae Brown (17) was charged with Armed Robbery and transported to the Department of Youth Services.
