POLICE DEPARTMENT PROMOTES THREE
OFFICERS
The
Port Orange Police Department is proud to announce the
promotions of Sergeant Michael Cox to the rank of Lieutenant,
Detective David Meyer to the rank of Detective Sergeant and
Officer Eric Fisher to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant
Meyer’s promotion was effective 12/29/08 while Lieutenant
Cox and Sergeant Fisher’s promotions were effective
01/19/09.
Originally
from England and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota,
Lieutenant Cox served in the United States Army military
police unit stationed in Germany prior to his employment with
POPD. Lieutenant Cox relocated to Florida in 1980 where he
graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University with a
Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Maintenance Management.
Lieutenant Cox joined the Port Orange Police Department in
1989 where he worked in the patrol division moving up through
the ranks as corporal and sergeant during his 19 year
tenure. Lieutenant Cox is a recipient of the Chief’s
Purple Heart award and has numerous commendations and letters
of recognition over his career. Lieutenant Cox resides in Port
Orange with his wife Paula and he will assume command of the
second platoon.
Originally
from Minnesota, Detective Sergeant Meyer was raised in the
Daytona Beach area and graduated from Mainland High School.
Sergeant Meyer was hired with the Port Orange Police
Department in January 1990 and worked in patrol as a field
training officer through 2002 when he was promoted to
detective. Sergeant Meyer has been assigned to the criminal
investigations division since this time and has the received
three achievement awards and one merit award for his superior
investigative skills. Additionally he was selected as the
police officer of the year in 1992 & 2002. Detective
Sergeant Meyer resides in Edgewater, Florida with his wife
Sheri and he will continue to work in the detective division
in his new supervisory assignment.
Originally
from New York City, Sergeant Fisher was raised in South
Daytona, Florida. Sergeant Fisher served in the United States
Navy for four years to include deployment during Operation
Desert Shield in the Middle East during the 1990 Gulf War. He
was hired on with the Port Orange Police Department in 2001.
Sergeant Fisher is a two time recipient of the Mothers against
Drunk Drivers (MADD) award as well as other commendation and
recognition letters. Sergeant Fisher spent the last three of
his eight years in the police canine unit as a
narcotics/tracking handler for K-9 “Memo”. Sergeant Fisher
resides in Port Orange and will be assigned to the fourth
platoon.
